APPRENTICE RUNNER-UP CHRIS BATES BEATS FELLOW CONTESTANTS IN FOX POKER CLUB TOURNAMENT
Popular TV show’s 2010 finalist goes one better to be crowned Apprentice poker champ
Friday 13th May 2011 – Chris Bates, runner-up in last year’s The Apprentice, beat a field of former contestants from the hit BBC show in the Crestbay Poker Challenge at the Fox Poker Club yesterday evening.
Bates proved that success in the boardroom can translate to success on the poker table as he once again triumphed over his adversaries from Lord Alan Sugar’s 2010 crop of Apprentices including Liz Locke and Paloma Vivanco-Coutts. However, Lee McQueen, winner of the 2008 series, showed that his pterodactyl impression was better than his poker face as he failed to make the final table.
The former contestants got on famously which made for an atmosphere quite different to the tense air of Lord Alan Sugar’s boardroom. However, the contestants’ fiercely competitive nature became apparent as a number of the players slipped on dark sunglasses and looked to avoid being first to be ‘fired’. Bates was the last man standing, after a disciplined style of play in which he called on the same calm and confident demeanor that almost secured him a job with Lord Sugar last year.
Former Apprentice contestants that played were: Chris Bates, Liz Locke, Paloma Vivanco-Coutts, Dan Harris, Tre Azam, Laura Moore, Raleigh Addington, Jamie Lester, Joy Stefanicki, Alex Epstein, Howard Ebison, Lee McQueen.

The Fox Poker Club has grown to be the environment favoured by over 14,000 poker players. From novices to enthusiasts from students to professionals: the poker players of the UK are taking to the vision of a poker club dedicated to poker and the needs of poker players. Named after Charles Fox one of London’s infamous card players the Fox Poker Club offers over twenty poker tournaments a week alongside cash games and space for entertaining.
This month has seen the FPC Main Event, a national level tournament with a prize pool of over £30,000 be won by thirty year old Londoner Jon Omara and everyone is looking forward to PKR Live which starts on May 19th with a £750 entry fee and an expected prize pool in the region of £200,000 which bring the best of European Poker to the heart of the West End.
The lucky new member who hit the 14,000 mark was Timothy Marshall a 34 year old Research Analyst based in south west London. Timothy won a bottle of bubbly and the opportunity to bring his friends to the club for a free private table. The Fox is the perfect place to celebrate or entertain from one table to groups for drinks and dinner, indeed past contestants of The Apprentice are visiting the club this week to face-off over the poker table.

With talk of a deal the final three are counting their stacks. Unconfirmed Chip Counts:
| Jon Omara | 1,002,500 |
| Neil Suarez | 637,000 |
| Jen-yue Chiang | 586,500 |
With the big blind at 16,000, Neil Suarez raised the button to 39,500 and Jono pumped it up to 100,000 from the Small Blind. Paul Romain thought for a few seconds before announcing All-in. Neil cards were in the muck as soon as he heard the bet.
Jono asked how much extra the bet was. Paul the dealer took in the 100,000s and found that Paul Romain had 180,000 more. This was fine by Jono – and it was a coin flip. Pocket Tens for Jono vs. Ace-Queen suited for Paul. There was no help on the flop and so Paul is our fourth place finisher winning £3,000. PKR Live is the next big event at the Fox – with a £750 buy-in and already over 100 players registered it’s well on its way to a prize pool in excess of £200,000.
